Ebonyi State police command yesterday arrested one Mr. Chukwuka Ben for allegedly killing 72-yearold Fidelis Uhuo at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Umuoghara in Ezza North Local Government Area of the state in place of a parish priest of the church.
The incident which occurred on 2nd May, 2016 in the morning was said to have happened when the suspect invaded the church to confront the priest for reasons best known to him failed. It was gathered that the suspect accused the priest of not allowing him to officiate in the church among other issues. Although Ben was said to have had a misunderstanding with the Priest incharge of the church (name withheld) some days before the day of the incident. In anger, he killed Uhuo who was around the church and fled because he cannot see the priest in the church.
But the Police trailed and arrested him. Confirming the incident yesterday, the Ebonyi State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP George Okafor, said: “It was on the 2nd of May, 2016 that information got to the Police that one Fidelis Uhuo of Ugalaba village of Umuoghara of about 72 years was murdered by one Chukwuka Ben of same address. “The corpse of the deceased was found within the church premises of St. Peter’s Catholic Church.
The accused ran away after the act and was later arrested, and presently he is cooperating with the Police to find out what actually transpired that led to the killing of the deceased.” He also confirmed the killing of a 28 year old man at Umuebe in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of the state, Chibueze Okeh, by one Ifeanyi Nweke (23). Okafor said “On the 30th of April, 2016 at about 7:30 in the morning, there was a fight between one Chibueze Okeh (28) and Ifeanyi Nweke(23). Ifeanyi Nweke used a stick and hit Chibueze on the head and he sustained serious injuries.
‘’The victim was rushed to Ezzamgbo General Hospital where he was being treated before he died on 1st May, 2016. It is a case of assault occasioning harm initially, but when the victim gave up the ghost, it turned out to be a case of murder.
“The report was brought by the elder brother of the deceased, and we are following up the matter. Two suspects have been arrested; the suspects include Nweke Ifeanyi and one other. They are in our custody cooperating with us to find out what led to the fight,’’ he noted.
