Arsenal are on the verge of finalising a deal for Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Granit Xhaka, according to a friend of the player.
Xhaka’s friend and journalist Arthan Muhaxhiri claims an agreement is close to being struck, and that the midfielder is on his way to London.
Muhaxhiri posted a picture of himself alongside Xhaka, captioning: “Just confirmed. Granit Xhaka is traveling to London to finalise an agreement with Arsenal FC! Congrats Granit!”
Xhaka is valued at £34million and would become Arsenal’s first outfield summer signing for two years.
Moussa Sissoko is being targeted by Arsenal and could be the first Newcastle star to leave because of their relegation from the Premier League.
Midfielder Sissoko was appointed skipper by manager Rafa Benitez late in the season, and responded with some of his best form towards the end of the doomed campaign.
The France international is one of the big assets certain to leave St James’ Park and start afresh elsewhere now the Magpies are a Championship club again.
He is a long term target of Gunners boss Arsene Wenger, who is looking to add power and pace to his midfield and has also been linked with Borussia Monchengladbach’s Swiss international Granit Xhaka .
