Nigerian membership of the Energy Regulators Regional Association (ERRA) was recently upgraded from associate status to full membership at the ongoing General Assembly of the international organisation holding in Warsaw, Poland.
The acting Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Dr. Anthony Akah was at the international forum elected member of a seven-man presidium of the body of independent regulatory bodies from Europe, Asia, Africa, Middle East and the United States.
Other members of the presidium include the Amer Saif Al Hinai of Oman; Rolands Irklis of Latvia; Maria Manicuta of Romania; Attila Nyikos of Hungary; Matt Ots of Estonia and Mustafa Yilmaz of Turkey.
The statement stated that Nigeria’s membership had been beneficial in exchange of experience with other regulatory agencies in the world through trainings, internship and knowledge sharing among member states.
It stated that the ERRA had conducted international and local trainings for NERC staff on managing emerging privatised electricity market, tariff setting, incentive regulation and benchmarking.
According to the statement, other countries that gained upgraded status along with Nigeria are Cameroon, Oman, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates.
